​Commonly sampled plants and animals in the Gladstone Harbour and surrounding marine and estuarine systems include animals and plants.

Animals

  • Aquatic freshwater macroinvertebrates
  • Zooplankton including copepods, rotifers, protozoa
  • Molluscs mainly gastropods

Plants

  • Mangroves
  • Benthic algae
  • Phytoplankton mainly diatoms with occurrences of dinoflagellates
  • Seagrass

There is also the possibility of seeing a range of other animals while out on the water including crabs, fish, crocodiles, sharks, jellyfish, prawns, dolphins, turtles, dugong, wader birds and sea birds.
