ConocoPhillips Science Education Experience

63 students from all over Queensland attended a 3 day ConocoPhillips Science Education Experience.

Day 2 was hosted at Quoin Island and students moving through four different rotations. Harbour Watch held a session exploring the water quality of waters surrounding Quoin Island which is in Gladstone's 'Inner Harbour'.

Students collected water samples and used scientific water quality equipment to measure abiotic factors of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, total dissolved solids and phosphate levels. Using their readings the students applied the water quality index method and calculated a water quality rating.

All groups found the water quality to be in the 'Good' range (B). The students found this data to correlate well with the Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership (GHHP) 2016 Report Card. Good to know Gladstone's Inner Harbour is nice and healthy!
